We had dinner here a week or so ago while doing some wine tours. Needless to say, we had the famous apple donuts, and they were quite good but not awe-inspiring. They basically tasted like solid cinnamon cake donuts.
We also got the pastrami sandwich (yes, I know, weird thing to get at a barbecue restaurant), but it was quite good.
The mac and cheese was perhaps the biggest letdown of the meal, although that's not entirely shocking. I've found that bbq restaurants tend to have slightly bland mac, and this was no exception.
Overall, we very much enjoyed this place, and the quirky gift shop out front makes for a great browsing experience! -

The Bully Burger with those candies Jalapeños was delicious!
The Apple Doughnuts were very Devine!
However... the Rockin' Redbirds Grilled Chicken Sandwich tasted like it was smoked to perfection and had pepper jack cheese ($0.50 charge) and nice delicious bacon on a toasted bun sprinkled with Slap ya' momma seasoning (my favorite seasoning) and served with chips!
The chicken breast was small but that sandwich was smoked and grilled to perfection and it actually was quite filling! The burger is good but that chicken sandwich is what will bring me back!
Ps. Who doesn't love free Apple Doughnut samples?!? -

It was my first time going to the apple house and I enjoyed it. We stopped in for lunch and it was already busy. The first thing you notice when you come inside is the smell of apple donuts. It's distinctive and you immediately crave some. Initially I thought I was going to order some breakfast because I really wanted an apple donut. Then I saw the Bully burger and was sold.
For how busy it was, the service was pretty good. Food came out fairly quick and hot. The staff was all very friendly as well.
The bully burger was good, I wish there was a few more candied jalapeños but it was good nonetheless. The baked beans were my favorite. I really liked them. They had all sorts of beans in there; red, brown, garbanzo, and black beans with pineapple slices.
I ordered 2 donuts and let me tell you, well worth the .99¢. It came out hot and tasted better than they smelled, which I didn't think was possible.
Mother pork rinds were good as well, no greasy at all and flavorful with the slap ya momma seasoning.
The rest of the guys enjoyed their food and will be Yelping their experience.
The 2 things that dropped it from a 5 to a 4 for me was how hot it was inside and the bathroom. I'm told it is a Mom and Pop owned store, my parents have one as well and I know times can be tough but this place doesn't look like it's lacking business. The fans kept it from being miserable but I was sweating (as were the 4 other guys in the group) while I ate.
The bathroom (men's) was not very clean And the soap dispenser was busted. Keep this in mind tho, the place was PACKED when I went in. There was a line of at least 15 waiting to order and there was another 10/15 on the other side looking at merchandise and whatever goes on, on the other side. So I may have walked in at a bad time. When it's that busy it's hard to have someone clean a bathroom when it's more important to get food out.
I'll be back with the family to enjoy some breakfast and donuts! -

Having eaten breakfast at The Apple House several times, I was looking for the sign on the highway to make sure I did not drive past the exit.
The attempt was successful. It was time for a snack and a cup of coffee.
The apple, cinnamon doughnut sounded good. More importantly, it also tasted good. It was very fresh, sweet and brought a smile to my face eating the thing.
For good measure, we bought some Hubs Virginia Peanuts and blueberry butter in the store.
Interesting decor. It is not a chain so a unique roadside experience. Breakfast is good, the atmosphere is informal, and often a number of children in family groups.
Worth a stop when driving by to pick up a dozen doughnuts to eat on a trip or give to friends when arriving back home. -

Right off the highway, the interior is similar to a Cracker Barrel with a shop and eatery. Items like hot sauces and syrups are available here that you won't find elsewhere. Satisfy your sweet tooth before burning it right?
For eats, they're known for their apple doughnuts which are addictive with the sugar & cinnamon. My girlfriend bought a dozen for her family which they seemed to like. I had one myself but wasn't drooling over it. While tasty, I decided on the breakfast ham sandwich on rye. It's a decent size sandwich and the bread has a nice crust although like the doughnut i was underwhelmed. It's definitely my own taste buds as others inside were raving about their sandwiches. I ate mine in the car so no one could see my stoic expressions compared to their excitements.
It's on the highway. As one reviewer said, shop here, caution eating here, and try a doughnut.
